Claims Are Slowing Down in West Quebec

There are still lots of them - nearly two thousand - but the claims staking rush in West Quebec has ground almost to a complete halt so far in 2008.

From what I can see, only seven (7) new claims have been filed in the area in the last few months. They are along route 148 just east of Fort-Coulonge.

These claims are bordered by existing Aldershot Resources and Robert Rosenblat claims and have not yet been granted.

Curiously, in another development, there is a plot of land near Bell Mount, a little west of Otter Lake, on the southern tip of Lac Leslie, that has has a restriction called "referred to the Minister."

What could the Minister be thinking? The area in question "infringes" on three claims currently held by Aldershot Resources.

While its nothing to be complacent about, the lack of claims staking is indicating the peak uranium of West Quebec in the early millenium may be starting to wane.

We are a community group that works to protect our human, environmental, and economic health from the risks associated with uranium. Our goal is to obtain a permanent moratorium on uranium exploration, mining, and processing in MRC du Pontiac and MRC des Collines de l'Outaouais. To meet this goal our group advocates, educates, and builds coalitions.
