Mock Mining Camp in Quebec City Makes a Point

The Coalition pour que Quebec ait meilleure Mine! has scored points in its public awareness campaign promoting changes to Quebec's mining law, currently under review in the National legislature.

The Coalition has set up a mock mining camp on the front lawn of the National Assembly to show how easy it is for mining companies to stake claims in rural Quebec, often against the wishes of local residents and municipal governments.

"The coalition is demanding Quebec's Liberal government amend its mining law to exclude all urban and residential areas from potential exploration."

In a related article Minister Simard has made a significant concession to the Coalition:

"We won't let mining companies exploit our resources at the expense of the environment and the local population," the minister said."
